RSV Immunisation for Babies

Service Description

i) Helps protect against serious RSV lung infections and reduces the risk of hospitalisation. ii) For eligible newborns and infants during their first year of life. Can be given from birth, ideally as early as possible. iii) Provides ready-made protective antibodies directly to your baby, with protection starting soon after the injection. iv) A single injection provides protection for at least 5 months. When given soon after birth, this helps cover the most vulnerable early months while your baby’s immune system and lungs continue to develop. Protection gradually decreases as the antibodies break down; babies do not automatically become immune to RSV afterwards. v) Subject to doctor assessment, including your baby’s age, weight, medical history and whether the mother received RSV vaccination during pregnancy. vi) For eligible infants receiving protection for their first RSV season, the dose depends on weight at the appointment: 50 mg for babies below 5 kg, or 100 mg for babies weighing 5 kg and above.
